Dining at the OXO tower always has a sense of occasion to it. Despite the growing number of high-end high-up restaurants opening in London’s ever increasing towers, the OXO restaurant and brassiere is still a popular destination for a charming laid back atmosphere.

Located on the eight floor in London’s landmark OXO tower, the dining room, brasserie and the bar all emit a sense of class. The glass frontage looks out onto the river offering stunning  views of the capital city. There is a clean slick atmosphere in the dining space which reflects the feel of the Harvey Nicholas who own this restaurant. The emphasis here is place on the stunning riverside views  rather than on the decor, however the open kitchen is a pleasant distraction.

Would I Want Seconds?

The OXO tower restaurant and brasserie often have set menu and seasonal offers, as well as special menus relating to events taking place on the Southbank. This means there is always something different to try on their ever changing list of menus, but it also means they often have value for money set menus on offer too.

We dined in the evening on a set menu which included 3 courses and a refreshing citron sherry Collins cocktail to start. For my three courses I choose the well prepared Thai spiced fried chicken, pink grapefruit bean shoot salad with lime chilli salad as a starter. I had the delicious pumpkin gnocchi with semi dried tomatoes, kalamata olives and rocket pesto cream as my main course.

The dessert which most appealed to me was the caramelia mousse with banana cake and peanut cream beautifully presented and encapsulated beautiful flavours. My dining companion tried the lemon brulee with blueberry compote and shortbread which was also delicious.

Could I Afford Seconds?

The set menu we tried included 3 courses and a cocktail for £30 which was very good value for money. If dining from the a la carte menu then diners can expect to spend much more than this, as starters currently range from £15 to £22 with the hand-dived scallops, beetroot purée, pineapple pearls with cider emulsion costing £22.50.

Main courses range from £21 to £35 expect for the chateaubriand, mashed potato Aligot, fondant organic carrots which is priced at £80, though is recommend to share between two people.

Desserts cost between £12 to £15 and include a good selection of sorbets, tarts, soufflés and profiteroles.

Overall?

My dining experience at the OXO tower restaurant and brasserie was very enjoyable and there is a nice buzzy vibe to this space suggesting that the other diners were also enjoying their meals.

The menu was also very well priced and delivered value for money for the quality and quantity of food served.

The service was a highlight of the experience, as staff were friendly and very attentive despite having quite a busy restaurant. We were immensely pleased when, although being initially seated on the opposite end of the window, we were asked if we’d like to move to a free table right by the window as soon as the table became free. As a result we had the best seat in the restaurant which complimented the lovely food too!
