Tempting delights on the Sweet Tooth Food Tour

I’d always known that Covent Garden was full of hidden foodie gems, but I wasn’t aware of just how many sugary treats lay in wait to be discovered and devoured until my Sweet Tooth Food Tour with Best LDN Walks.

Cakes, chocolate, cookies, gelato and candy, are all covered by this London sweet tooth tour which involves two blissful hours of strolling through one of London’s most iconic areas and sampling, nibbling, tasting, savouring and scoffing through its most delicious stores.

Charlotte, our tour guide met us at Covent Garden station clutching a bright collection of balloons. After welcoming us and promising an array of tasty treats we headed off to our first stop which wasn’t too far away.

As Londoner it’s always nice to discover new streets in my home city and the first venue we stopped at was on a vibrant buzzing street which I otherwise would not have discovered! First on the menu was gelato and Charlotte had taken us to the top rated gelato in London. The store was quirky and inviting with a multitude of gelato on offer, including unique flavours such as custard cream and basil and chilli flavour!

I tired the Salted Caramel which is my new favourite flavour of the season. I also sampled Café Latte and Sicilian Pistachio. All these flavours were divine and it was evident that they were freshly made with the best quality ingredients. In addition all the gelato here is completely natural, free of any additives or preservatives and low in fat. The vegan options are also well labelled and easy to spot.

Once we had wetted our taste buds with some large portions of gelato we made way to our next stop. No sweet tooth tour could be complete without chocolate and that’s exactly where we headed next. Yet this wasn’t just any chocolate, as Charlotte had led us to a mountain of Gourmet Belgian Chocolate by a luxury Belgian producer. The display in this store was a feast for the eyes, especially as there was rows of bright chocolate eggs laid out for Easter. After an explanation of the history and quality of the different versions by the chocolatiers we were allowed to take our pick of their best chocolates to fill a gorgeous goodie bag with.

After bidding farewell to the very hospitable and knowledgeable chocolatiers we were led further along the same street to continue more of the hedonistic sugary delights. The next store dealt only on candy and  beautifully enticing jars of it lining the whole store. This store was set up by two Swedish sisters who shared a huge love for all things sweet and decided to create a sweet haven for adults and children.

This stores holds an unique selection of innovative quality sweets made from natural colours and flavours as well as  their own hand-crafted confectionery. We tried a wide selection of sweets here including some amazingly moreish ones to some debateable Swedish delicacies. This stop on the tour was the most fun as we had the chance to try a countless number of different sweets. We also all left with our pockets full of more delights!

We then headed to a more luxurious destination as it was time for some macaroons. The store we entered looked like a beautiful art gallery with artistically intricate macaroons filling the centre space. The flavours on offer here were also unique and my favourite was the pine wood and orange blossom.

These favours were subtle and not over powering, meaning that these macaroons were little parcels of pleasure. For those that we could not eat any more sugar on the spot were given to us to take away in a sumptuous gift bag.

Finally, after this whirlwind of sugar Charlotte took us to Timberyard, an independent coffee shop in Covent garden where a large table full of tea, coffee and cake was laid out for us. This was a lovely end to the tour as we all had a chance to sit around a large table and relax over a cup of artisan tea and a selection of fresh handmade cakes.

This Sweet Tooth Food Tour as a whole was a lovely experience and a great way to explore the hidden streets of Covent Garden. I discovered some lovely places on the tour which I will definitely be returning too, as well as unearthed streets of London which I previously hadn’t known existed.

All the treats were expertly made visual gorgeous and truly scrumptious as this tour takes you to the finest boutiques, artisan bakeries and sinfully decadent confectioners of Covent Garden. I would highly recommend Charlotte as a tour guide and this tour is a fabulous alternative to a birthday or hen party or even mother-daughter bonding sessions.
