Afternoon Tea at Pont Street is one of the most luxurious things I have done in a while! This Spring Pont Street have launched a brand new afternoon tea, inspired by the opulence of Marie Antoinette’s court.

The menu includes a savoury selection, sweet treats and even comes with champagne and indulgent tea. This opulent Afternoon Tea is perfectly suited to the elegant décor of the restaurant located in the heart of Belgravia.

As diners walk in, the lavish yet contemporary surroundings really does make you feel like you are in for a treat. We were seated in an elegant booth with comfortable lush seating and beautiful table layout which set the scene perfectly for the delights that awaited us!

Would I Want Seconds?

The decadent Afternoon Tea menu has been put together by Chef Sophie Michell who is currently Britain’s youngest female executive chef.

Our meal started with Ruinart Champagne, one of the oldest Champagne houses in France which was served to us with a box of edible pearls flavoured with rose or raspberry. The pearls perfectly complemented the flavour of the champagne and created a seamless match. We also ordered tea from an extensive menu and I choose my favourite mint tea.

When our Afternoon Tea stand was delivered to our table it was a delightful vision! It has to be one of the prettiest afternoon tea stands I have seen due to the assortment of colours and the presentation, as well as the sheer number of items on it.We couldn’t wait to get started!

We started with the warm cheese ball with quince which as well as being presented the beautifully was also a treat for the senses due to the sweet tangy flavour of the quince. We continued with the rest of the savoury selection which included foie gras on brioche toasthollandaise quail egg tartlets and smoked salmon on pumpernickel, all which tasted scrumptious and were served in ideal bite size portions.

Scones!

Next we moved onto the collection of finger sandwiches and devoured those before we moved onto the sweet treats. We then tried the scones with cream and jam, which were soft and moist and almost dissolved in our mouths as we ate them.

When it come to the sweet section of the Afternoon Tea there was so much to choose from.

This included delicate fondant fanciesclassy rose macaroonsdecadent absinthe choux and a stunning chocolate opera cake. We also had Champagne lychee jelly with rosewater cream and a token Marie antoinette playing card biscuit to finish of the meal.

Each piece that we tried was gracefully made, appealingly presented and tasted delicious. In fact there was so much food on the stand that it was proving very difficult to finish everything by the end, even after we had already been there for three hours, something which is rarely the case with dainty afternoon teas.

Could I Afford Seconds?

This extravagant Marie Antoinette Afternoon Tea is priced at £35 per person, and £45 per person with Champagne.

There are many other opulent afternoon teas in London which charge much more than this and I sure they don’t present diners with the sheer amount of food that we had. This makes this particular Afternoon Tea fabulous value for money.

Executive chef Sophie describes Marie Antoinette as a ‘figure of decadence, beauty and frivolity’ and the Afternoon Tea Sophie has created is certainly a reflection of this.

I would highly recommend Afternoon Tea at Pont street as it would be a lavish, fun yet value for money way of spending an afternoon with a group of your best friends. Just remember to come hungry as there is a lot of food to get through!
