I've always seen Michelin-starred Fera at Claridge’s as a luxurious restaurant to be visited on special occasions due to the price tag that comes with dining at such decadent destinations. However when I discovered their amazingly priced set menu through Bookatable I had to give it a try!

Based in the swanky 5 star luxury hotel Claridges, walking into this venue feels like entering another a world of elegance marble clad hallways, open glowing fireplaces and plush seating all matched with impeccable service. The dining room has a stunning ornate tree placed in the centre and surrounded by candle light, at this rate we couldn't wait to try the menu by renowned chef Simon Rogan!

Would I Want Seconds?

Fera, meaning ‘wild’ in Latin is the inspiration behind the menu and many of the ingredients are little known, including dittander and pineapple weed. These finest organic ingredients are showcased on the Fera menu, with many raised on Rogan’s own farm in the Lake District, and others sourced from trusted growers.

We were dining from the set menu which included three courses and a glass of champagne for £39 and our meal started with expertly poured champagne and amuse bouche to wet our palates. We were also served bread and butter for the table.

To start I chose salt baked beetroot, salsify cream, trompette and liquorice powder. The combination of the beetroot and liquorice meant this dish had many deep and satisfying flavours in it without feeling too strong or heavy. My dining companion the other option which was the marinated halibut, smoked cauliflower, bergamot and radishes which was an intricate and beautifully presented dish.

For our main course we both decided on the steamed cod with honey spinach, fennel, monk’s beard, Jerusalem artichoke. This was a stunning dish beautifully light flavours and the honey spinach add a slight sweet after tastes which suited my sweet tooth very well!

This dish set me up perfectly for dessert for which I tried blackcurrant leaf ice cream, pickled apple and anise fritters. This refreshing dish was the perfect way to end the meal and my dining companion’s chocolate cream, blood orange and melilot dessert was also divine.

Before the left we were served a plate of dark chocolate and jelly treats which summed up the meal of rich flavours served in a light and refreshing manner.

Could I Afford Seconds?

Dining at Fera at Claridge’s would on most occasions be out of many people’s budget. However Bookatable’s special set menu offers three courses and a glass of champagne for £39which is extraordinary considering the prices on the a la carte menu.

We were also served a few extra small dishes which were included in the price and contributed to even more food being offered. In addition the majority of the drinks including the champagne in the bar were above £15, yet this menu already includes champagne making dining here even more affordable.

Having been lucky enough to dine at many high end restaurants in London, it is rare that I am completely blown away by one. However, everything from the opulent décor, impeccable and effortless service and the food created with imagination and ingenuity was divine. This combined with the beyond reasonable set menu price made my time at Fera at Claridges, as my dining companion described it, magical.
