Yauatcha is a stylish restaurant tucked away on the corner on Broadwick Street. Designed around the idea of a Taipai tea house, the smaller ground floor tea room is full of light blue and purple hues but the staircase leads down to a darker space with spot-lit black tables and illuminated fish tank and an almost nightclub-like feel.

Yaucha Patesserie can also be found on the ground floor, serving delightfully laid-out macaroons and desserts which are instantly irresistible.

Would I Want Seconds?

We started by ordering drinks from their extensive drinks menu, and decided to try the HakkaLychee Martini and Cha La Lai. These were enjoyably fruity drinks so much so that they didn’t taste of alcohol very much!

Our set meal  started with a variety of  set dim sum dishes, which can be amended depending on your dietary requirements. The steamed dishes were brought out first and included traditional Chinese Har gau dumplings, crystal dumpling wrap with pumpkin and prawn shui mai with chicken. We also had baked venison puff, mushroom spring roll with black truffle, king crab Shanghai siew long bun and prawn and beancurd cheung fun.

Although the individual pieces are small, there were quite a few to sample so we were already quite stuffed by this point! However we still had the sticky rice in lotus leaf to come, which was served with a choice of Chinese tea, from which I ordered jasmine.

As we had passed by Yautacha Patisserie on our way in, we couldn’t resist ordering some macaroons to end the meal. We sampled matcha, rose and hazelnut

all of which were divine with just the right level of crunch!

Could I Afford Seconds?

The Taste of Yauatcha menu

is priced at £14.44 per person and is great value for money. It is also significantly cheaper than ordering from the a la carte menu.

However it is important to note that it is only available from 2pm until 6pm on Monday to Thursday and can be booked for a minimum of two people. Additionally there are also some times of the year when the Taste of Yauatcha menu is not available and so it is worth checking and booking beforehand.

Overall?

Yauatcha is a restaurant I’ve wanted to try to a while but it was the price that was putting me off. However with the extraordinarily priced Taste of Yauactcha menu I could put those worries to rest. As a result I had a great time and will definitely be heading back.
