Fitzrovia’s hidden luxury living room bar - Meraki Bar

Meraki Bar Fitzrovia - London Review

Cuisine: Greek
Style Points: 5/5
Location: Fitzrovia
Price: £££
Overall: 4/5

Meraki bar has a street level, cosy space on a quiet street in Fitzrovia, joint to the main, larger restaurant. However those in the know head to the secret entrance and down the staircase at the end of the bar to a chic bohemian style underground bar and lounge.

This luxury space is small enough to give it an intimate feel without feeling overbearing, however when the DJ starts playing and the party really starts it is a tight squeeze with limited entry.

Meraki Bar has discreetly welcomed A-list celebrities like Rami Malek, Suki Waterhouse, Robert Pattinson and Guy Ritchie, so we headed down on a Friday night to try out their bar menu, cocktails and do some celebrity spotting.

Food?

The menu at Meraki bar is a creative twist on Mediterranean cuisine, designed by their talented head chef Athinagoras Kostakos. This is combined with a tempting and quirky cocktail list. We tried Meraki’s tasting menu which is served in the private downstairs bar.

We started with Taramosalata, made with white cod roe emulsion, and grilled aubergine ‘Melitzanosalata’, similar to a tahini. This was served with a crispy, warm pitta bread selection.

Next we tried the octopus carpaccio, with lemon oil dressing and pickled onion and lamb kebabs with secret spiced recipe. We ended with the Meraki dessert selection and coffee just as the saxophonist started playing and the party really got started!

Trying the signature cocktails at Meraki bar is a must and my favourite was the Black Swan,

Made with Ketel one vodka, passionfruit and lychee juice, honey-black tea and fresh basil.

Price?

As Meraki Bar is an exclusive lounge bar, the prices here do reflect that. However the signature cocktails start at £12, which is fairly average for central London and not all the dishes on the tasting menu need to be ordered - meaning it doesn’t have to be an expensive night.

Overall?

I was pleasantly surprised to find such a well hidden lounge bar in Fitzrovia, as I thought that over years I had got to know the area quite well!

Meraki Bar combines glamour with bohemia, creating an elective yet luxurious space.

It is more suited to a lavish night out rather than casual drinks even though the hidden feel and small space still keeps its quite cosy and bespoke.
