Brunch in the sky at Duck & Waffle, Liverpool Street

Restaurant review: Brunch at Duck & Waffle, London

Style Points: 5/5
Price: £££
Overall: 5/5

Duck & Waffle is one of London’s iconic dining destinations. Located on the 40th floor of the Heron Tower the views for this modern restaurant are spectacular. Not only that, Duck & Waffle is open 24/7 which means over the years I’ve dined here at various times, including at 3am! However I hadn’t visited at a normal hour for brunch and so I set about to put that straight.

What's on the menu?

Duck & Waffle serves brunch every weekend from a menu inspired by broad European and British influences, though their breakfast menu served on weekends also has similarities.

The menu includes ‘classics’ such as steak and eggs, full English breakfast and eggs Benedict, as well as some of their more iconic dishes such as the iconic duck and waffle

We started off with quite a pricy fresh orange juice (£5.50), breakfast tea and seasonal fruit salad with cinnamon and vanilla syrup (£7). This worked well as a refreshing starter before we moved onto our main course.

I chose from the savoury waffle list and picked the smoked salmon royal with hen’s eggs, horseradish and chives (£13). This was the perfect breakfast dish as the eggs, sauce and chives combined to create a luxurious taste.

From the sweet waffle list we also tried the banana brulee with housemade hazelnut and chocolate spread, vanilla ice cream, peanut crunch (£10). This crumbly sweet dish combined the crunch of the peanuts with the soft banana to produce a stunning dish. By this point we had consumed quite a few waffles!

Could I afford to dine here again?

Duck & Waffle is an iconic high end restaurant and the prices are a clear reflection of this. I’m still trying to get over the glass of fairly standard orange juice priced at nearly £6. However apart from this anomaly the dishes themselves were not extraordinarily priced and met the London standard.

Overall?

Duck & Waffle's panoramic views, chic atmosphere, and food cooked with local, rustic, seasonal and sustainable ingredients mean that this is a destination restaurant.
Each of my visits to Duck & Waffle have been memorable occasions, this included! It seems this is the go-to restaurant for a very classy good time!
