Review: Dinner at Momo Restaurant, Heddon Street, London

Style Points: 5/5

Whether it be brunch, lunch, afternoon tea, shisha or dinner, dining at Momo restaurant in Mayfair is always a treat. When I made my way down London’s vibrant Heddon Street for dinner at Moroccan restaurant Momo I knew it was going to be a delicious meal.

Momo is graced in stunning decor, from the outside terrace to the cafe, bar and lounge, the adornment is beautiful, with classic Marrakech-style interiors, including latticed windows, metal lanterns and opulent fabric wrapping the chairs, cushions, and even the menu!

Would I Want Seconds?

On arrival at Momo for my review, we were seated towards the back of the main restaurant in sumptuous surroundings. To start our meal we ordered the classic champagne cocktail (£15.50) made with Fine de Cognac and my favourite Veuve Cliquot champagne.

For our starters I couldn’t resist order the barbecue octopus, served with beetroot ketchup and pickled salsify (£9.50). The luscious octopus was well cooked so that it was not overly chewy, and the taste was complemented by the tart beetroot ketchup well.

My dining companion tried the wood pigeon pastilla which arrived as two fine crispy pastries filled with sweet and spiced wood pigeon, almonds and cinnamon served with orange marmelade (9.75). We also sampled the cheese briouat, all of which whet our appetites for the main course!

For my main course at Momo, I decided to stay with the seafood theme and ordered sea bass with barbecued new potatoes and courgette, piquillo peppers sauce (£24.50). The light and carefully crafted sea bass was succulent and perfect as main course which isn’t too heavy.

My dining companion tried the vegetarian green vegetable roz, served risotto style with green asparagus, wild mushrooms, pinenuts, hazelnuts and parmesan emulsion (£16.00). The risotto itself was rich creamy and delicious.

It was now time for another round of cocktails, in which I ordered 54, again with Veuve Cliquot champagne and Earl Grey tea infused tea and Saint Germain elderflower liquor.

Although Momo had many classic moroccan dishes for dessert such as traditional maghrebine pastries and crepe ‘berber’, I couldn’t resist ordering the chocolate fondant. The chocolate fondant arrived as a beautifully presented large portion, which oozed perfect warm chocolate as I dived into it. We also ordered some Moroccan fresh mint tea which cut through the sweetness of the chocolate and served as the perfect end to our meal.

Could I Afford Seconds?

Momo’s is a fantastic high-end restaurant on Heddon Street, in the heart of Mayfair. The quality of food and service and surroundings is matched by the prices, particularly the drinks. However the prices at Momo’s are justified, especially as a special occasion treat

Overall?

My dinner at Momo was a lovely experience. The service was attentive, the food was delicious and well cooked and the decor was luxurious, resulting in a glamorous relaxed meal. I have visited Momo’s cafe/bar and lounge for drinks and the terrace for Moroccan Afternoon Tea, and it has consistently been a good experience each time, which is always a sign of a distinguished restaurant.

A special thanks to Momo’s for inviting us and for being such great hosts!
