I’ve reviewed a few vacuum cleaners in recent months and I’m a huge fan of cordless models. Working from home for what seems like forever, I can definitely appreciate these machines when I notice dust and dirt around the house. They are easier to use, cleaning is less time-consuming, and for the most part, they are light-weight and easy to manoeuvre. Their downfall tends to be relatively short battery life and that they are less powerful than corded vacuum cleaners, which can be an issue if you need powerful suction.

When I heard that there was a cordless vacuum designed by two ex-Dyson engineers that claims to have TWICE the sucking power of the market leaders, I knew I had to test it for myself. The Lupe has been in development for over 5 years and having recently spoken to co-founder Pablo Montero, I could sense the passion and enthusiasm for creating a vacuum that would break the mould in terms of performance and longevity.

In the Box:

The Lupe Cordless includes the main body, a universal pick-up head with ‘suction intensifier technology’, a lithium ion battery and charger with plug adaptors, a detachable wand, multi-function crevice and upholstery accessory tools with on-board mount.

Most cordless vacuum cleaners come with multiple heads but not the Lupe because, well, it doesn’t need them. The Lupe has a composite soft roller at the front and a higher power brush head behind this. The soft roller is like nothing I’ve seen or felt on a vacuum roller and it’s really great at creating an airtight seal as well as going over large bits of debris without any issue.

The Lupe has a bagless 4 stage filtration with a massive 1 litre dustbin and a washable HEPA filter that separates up to 99.99% of fine dust.

Functionality:

  • Suction power

I used the Lupe on a few different surfaces and can say it is really effective at picking up hair and embedded carpet dirt. It worked incredibly well on all surfaces in my home including tiles, hard and linoleum floors, carpets and short/shaggy pile rugs.

I can definitely believe the manufacturer’s claims of unprecedented suction power based on what I’ve seen what the machine can do first-hand.

  • Lightweight and easy to manoeuvre

As opposed to stick vacuums which have most of the weight in the handle, giving your arms a bit of a workout, the Lupe is an upright cleaner so the weight is centred in the body of the machine. I’m so used to cordless stick vacuums that I forgot how heavy they can be after a few minutes, yet the Lupe doesn’t have any issues like this as you don’t have to carry any of the weight on your arms. In this sense, you can use the Lupe for long periods of time and won’t feel any aches or tired arms.

In addition, the swivel action on the head is really effective at manoeuvring into tight spaces for effortless cleaning.

  • Replaceable parts

One of my favourite features of the Lupe is the easy to replace machine parts, including the battery and the massive 1litre dustbin. This aligns with the founders’ philosophy of creating a machine with longevity as Lupe sell the parts on their website so you don’t need to buy a whole new machine if individual parts break down and they are easy to order and fit. There’s also a 2 year warranty for ease of mind.

  • Great battery life

There are three settings for the vacuum; Eco, Normal, and Max. Lupe recommends Eco as the default setting and the clean time is up to 60 mins, followed by Normal for general use for up to 30mins clean time, and Max for very dirty areas with clean time of up to 15 mins.

Eco mode has high power performance and I use this as my default and the battery life has been nothing short of brilliant. I charged it once in two weeks of cleaning including odd cleaning jobs here and there as well as cleaning the whole house several times and the car once. It’s definitely the best battery life I have seen in a cordless vacuum cleaner so far and the fact it gets 60 minutes on the default setting is seriously impressive. Charge time is 3.5 hours with LEDs that show the charge remaining.

  • Handheld for stairs and car cleaning

There are two attachments for handheld use, a multi-function crevice tool and an upholstery tool. The whole machine can be quickly transformed into a handheld device for cleaning stairs, car interior, or tight areas where a smaller attachment is needed.

Of course, this is where stick vacuums earn their money as they are lightweight and easy to pick up and carry. But the Lupe isn’t particularly heavy to carry around and the extendable 2m hose pipe means it’s easy to clean sofas and higher areas like curtains without having to pick up the machine.

Overall?

The Lupe Pure Cordless is one seriously impressive machine that I believe will make other vacuum manufacturer’s have to up their game. The founders of Lupe wanted to create a cordless cleaner that provides high powered performance and suction as well as longevity and they have accomplished this. It’s refreshing to see a company making spare parts easily accessible and genuinely thinking about what the end user requires from a device that will be used weekly if not daily and can cost hundreds of pounds.

There are only two cons in my opinion; noise and price. It isn’t a quiet machine, especially when used on Max mode, but by no means is this a deal-breaker. The price is approximately £699 which you could argue is the cost of a premium machine, which this definitely is, but nonetheless it is still a lot of money. However, replaceable parts and a 2 year warranty are big positive points that could offset this initial price.

Noise and price aside, the Lupe Pure Cordless delivers on the bold claims it makes and it’s definitely one to rival the leading manufacturers on the market.
