The Decor

The Cardinal Bar and Kitchen has a warm and welcoming atmosphere, ideal for both casual dining and special occasions. The intimate space features banquette seating along the walls, complemented by wooden inserts, flooring, and light fittings that create a cozy yet sophisticated environment. The lounge-like setting is perfect for relaxed meals, while the terrace offers a charming spot for alfresco dining during the warmer months. The overall ambiance successfully balances comfort with a touch of elegance, making it a standout spot in the bustling city.

Menu and Cuisine

The menu at The Cardinal Bar and Kitchen spans a wide range of European classics, offering something for every meal of the day—breakfast, brunch, lunch, and dinner. Starting with snacks 'For the Table', guests can enjoy dishes like Mushroom Arancini and Crispy Chicken Wings with gochujang sauce. Starters include enticing options such as Beef Raviolo with bordelaise sauce and Stracciatella with slow-roasted tomatoes, hazelnut dukkah, and garlic toast. My favourite and a must-try is the bread basket, which features a mind-blowing homemade butter and honey whipped ricotta.

Main courses feature hearty and well-executed dishes like The Cardinal Burger, Bone-In Pork Chop with maple-glazed apple and buttermilk mash, and my absolute favourite, Ricotta Gnudi with wild mushrooms in a sage-butter sauce. Desserts are equally indulgent, with offerings like Sticky Toffee Pudding with Armagnac Ice Cream and a refreshing Pavlova with summer berries and yuzu curd. The diverse menu ensures that every guest can find something to delight their palate.

The Bar

The dedicated bar at The Cardinal Bar and Kitchen boasts an impressive selection of cocktails, wine, and beer. The signature cocktail menu reinterprets old school classics with a unique twist. Highlights include the Square Mile Cosmopolitan, San Remo Royale, and Saint Sbagliato. Whether you're looking for a pre-dinner drink or a nightcap, the bar’s offerings are sure to impress. The comprehensive beverage list complements the food menu perfectly, enhancing the overall dining experience.

Situated at the crossroads of The City and Shoreditch, The Cardinal Bar and Kitchen enjoys a prime location in London’s financial district. This makes it an ideal spot for both business meetings and leisurely meals. The terrace, which opens in time for the summer season, offers an additional draw for those looking to enjoy post-work drinks in a scenic setting.

Overall

The Cardinal Bar and Kitchen delivers a delightful dining experience with its well-crafted menu, inviting ambiance, and prime location. The attention to detail in both the food and drink offerings, combined with the warm and comfortable setting, makes it a standout choice in Aldgate.
