Fuel your WFH with these Ethical Coffee Subscriptions
The Best Coffee Subscription Services - Review
If there’s one thing I miss about working in an office in central London, it’s the array of independent coffee shops to choose from for my morning espresso, mid-day latte and coffee catch-ups with friends after work.
But there’s no need to worry, as these independent coffee subscription services all deliver premium, ethical coffee straight to your door.
Craft Coffee Club
Craft Coffee Club is one of my favourites, as a monthly subscription with them takes you on a global coffee expedition exploring and supporting coffee farmers across the world.
Each month Craft Coffee Club partners with independent coffee farmers and UK artisan roasters to supply you with luxury single origin coffee, all whilst giving back and supporting the community.
As well as the luxurious single origin coffee, your box also contains delectable little sweet treats to accompany the coffee - what more could you want?
Balance Coffee
Ethical and sustainable coffee is at the centre of Balance Coffee’s ethos. All their coffee beans are ethically sourced from either cooperatives, or direct trade relationships. The premium coffee beans purchased and used by Balance Coffee not only tastes fantastic, but also genuinely improves the farmers’ livelihoods. They are also involved in sustainability initiatives including proactively planting trees each month and donating a percentage of sales to Project Waterfall.
For such premium coffee it’s amazing that their coffee subscription start at only £8.50, and comes with the flexibility of adding/reducing and changing the type of coffee you want delivered at any point. With a range of coffee beans or ground coffee on offer, its worth trying a few before settling on a favourite. I particularly enjoy the Stability Blend, a classic espresso blend which creates a balanced cup of coffee, making it my go-to blend as it is drinkable at any time of day.
Barista & Co
As well as producing high quality luxurious coffee accessories, Barista & Co now also offer ethically sourced speciality coffee. Their coffee is freshly roasted by hand every week in small batches in their award winning roasters in Dorset, meaning subscribers can receive their coffee within 72 hours of it being freshly roasted!
Alongside the coffee, I tried the Barista & Co One Brew, which is perfect for making hassle free coffee at home or in your home office. Simply add ground coffee and hot water and leave for 5 minutes before enjoying an amazing cup of fresh rich coffee.
Dog & Hat Coffee
The husband and wife duo who run Dog & Hat coffee are committed to sourcing the best coffee from across the UK and Europe. Subscribers to Dog & Hat Coffee can choose from receiving between 2-4 bags of freshly roasted whole bean coffee a month, all delivered in recyclable packaging. This high ethical standard is continued in their sourcing of coffee too.
They also offer coffee gift subscriptions and coffee accessories such as brew kits, filters and hand-thrown ceramic coffee cups too.
Batch Coffee
Batch Coffee is one of the most personalised coffee subscriptions. The hand-selected coffee from UK and Ireland’s growing number of roasteries is ground specifically to your chosen brew and to suit your tastes. This personal and unique service helps create a coffee-loving community which you’ll love being a part of.
The Independent Coffee Box
The Independent Coffee Guide has long promoted the best indie cafes in the UK, and now have a coffee subscription box which delivers them to you. All their coffee meets high standards of quality and are fairly and ethically traded.
Subscribers also receive a monthly copy of Brew, which contains tasting notes and features on the UK’s growing coffee scene - a great read whilst enjoying their coffee!
The Coffee Factory
Located in the Devon countryside, the coffee factory has been roasting top quality coffee since 2009. Supplying freshly artisan-roasted coffee, with their subscription you can choose your favourite type of coffee, preferred brewing method and grind type, as well as how many cups of coffee you drink every day so that they can make sure you have a fresh pack of coffee just when you need it!
The Coffee Factory is also committed to helping the environment, and have streamlined all their packing to make it environmentally friendly.
Never run out of fresh artisanal coffee with a Coffee Factory subscription.
The Foodies Larder
The Foodies Larder is where I get my stock of delicious Café Saula gran espresso premium coffee. Established in 1950, Café Saula is a family coffee roaster based in Barcelona who offer the very best in continental style coffee.
They also offer a range of ground, whole bean and premium biodegradable Nespresso compatible coffee capsules, that are Fairtrade, organic and Rainforest Alliance too!
Speciality Coffee Company
Speciality Coffee Company offers the genius idea of coffee bags! They supply Lola’s Coffee Bags which has made making coffee so much easier. The convenience of a bag means that in a few minutes you have a coffee made to your taste with little hassle - what’s not to like?
Spiffing Coffee
Based in Berkshire, Spiffing Coffee has launched 6 coffee labels to encompass the most popular coffee trends and flavours. They include Rumbling Tiger from Sumatra, Yellow Bagel from India and Salsa Rhythms from Columbia.
Sustainability is key to Spiffing Coffee and they strive to provide ethical coffee which is Rainforest Alliance, Soil Association or Fairtrade.
Ethical Addictions
This small family company is committed to sourcing high quality speciality coffee which makes a real, tangible difference to coffee producing countries.
They purchase all coffee direct from the farm, which means a larger proportion of the price goes to the farmers themselves. This provides complete transparency of the whole process, from traceability to price paid which is typically hard to find in the industry. They work with farms in South America and Africa to source delicious coffee available as beans or ground coffee. I tried their single origin coffees from South America, Brazil and Colombia and was impressed with the quality and taste of the coffee.
Ethical Addictions offers individual coffee packs, a coffee variety selection and a coffee subscription too.
Özerlat Turkish Coffee
Bored of the standard espresso, latte and cappuccinos? Then you need to try some proper Turkish coffee. Özerlat have been making exceptional Turkish coffee since 1917 and have taken up the challenge of bringing exceptional Turkish coffee to the UK.
Maintaining the traditions and standard of the past, their coffee is made from pure Arabica beans and uniquely roasted and blended and ground extremely fine, making it ideal for Turkish coffee. They also sell the cezve, the special pot traditionally used to make Turkish coffee, meaning you can recreate it at home!
Far Side Cold Brew
Far Side Coffee offers bottled cold-brew coffee and is ideal for those who want to experience their coffee hit in a different way. Perfect for hot Summer days, it’s worth keeping some of these in the fridge to cool down with. Significantly, Far Side Coffee supports female coffee farmers and works to address gender inequality in the coffee industry.
So these are my favourite ethical coffee subscriptions and producers. How have you been getting your caffeine fix whilst working from home?
