A Weekend Break at Bingham Riverhouse Hotel, Richmond - Review
Bingham Riverhouse - Hotel and Restaurant Review
Location: Richmond, London
Price: £££
Value for Money: 5/5
Overall: 5/5
Perfect for: Romantic weekends away
Richmond is only a short train journey out of central London and is full of beautiful lush green surroundings, a fabulous high street and a bunch of great places to wine and dine. This makes it an ideal location for a close-to-home weekend getaway, where you can recharge your batteries, take in some nature and feel like you’ve had a real break without even leaving London!
Bingham Riverhouse Hotel is the perfect place to stay for a weekend break in Richmond. This boutique hotel is located on the riverfront, with a lovely garden area, a bar and restaurant with stunning views out onto the river.
But the magic starts even before you see the views, with a cosy entrance and informal reception, you immediately feel like you’re walking into a home rather than a stuffy hotel.
The lounge and bar area is a welcoming airy space with elegant furniture, attractive bar and floor-to-ceiling windows looking out onto the river. The highlight for me is the aptly named Library, which has hundreds of Penguin books that line the wall, books which can also be found dotted around the hotel.
The Rooms?
Each of the rooms at The Bingham Riverhouse Hotel are unique and named after one of Michael Field’s poems. We stayed in Sweet Briar, which is a Large River Room. The room was generously proportioned, with a king size bed and beautiful Thames view. Though the stand-out feature is the hand-forged copper bath-tub located in the room, adding a real sense of style to the room.
The furnishes in the room is simple and country-esque, with all the mod-cons added.In-room facilities include:
Safe
Minibar
iPod docking station
Nespresso machine
Kettle
Iron/board
Robes and slippers
Toiletries by organic skincare range LA EVA
We found our room a delight to stay in, as it was comfortable and spacious enough, with a host of magazines and reading material too!
Dinner?
Bingham Riverhouse have an intimate and classy dining space, serving modern British cuisine created by Head Chef Andrew Cole.
All dishes are seasonal and inspired by an English country garden, yet they are also warming and comforting, perfect for this time of year.
Highlights include a starter of torched Mackerel with fennel and pepper escabeche, smoked paprika, spring onion mayo, whilst mains include Lamb Loin with crispy sweetbread black olive caramel, sugar snap peas, broad beans, baby plum tomatoes, and goats curd mash.
My favourite dessert was the delicious Banoffee Cheesecake with caramelised popcorn and salted caramel ice cream. Guests can enjoy the food with expert wine pairing from experienced sommeliers or cocktails from their amazing resident mixologist.
Breakfast?
Breakfast is served in the lighter, pink bar area and is composed of a buffet and hot dishes to be ordered from the menu. The buffet includes fresh fruit, toast, breads, meats, cheeses, cereals and yogurts. I tried the crushed avocado on toast with a latte and freshly pressed juice that is served to the table.
Overall?
I had a lovely weekend stay at Bingham Riverhouse due to the beautiful interiors, uber-friendly staff and ideal location for exploring the beautiful area of Richmond.
The food on offer is exemplary and well thought through to reflect the needs of the diners and the produce available in the area.
If the hotel wasn’t so well located I would have happily spent the whole day in the various areas of the hotel itself, including library, lounge and garden. I’m sure Bingham Riverhouse Hotel flourishes in Summer and I can’t wait to come back to a restorative visit when the sun is out!
