Bottomless brunch has become a recent habit of mine over these past few weekends and it’s a habit I’m not planning on kicking anytime soon! My latest brunch visit was to Sea Containers Restaurant located right on the River Thames in South Bank. The venue itself is beautiful and spacious with suave copper walls, mustard colour banquettes and burgundy leather chairs which all come together to create a highly trendy and sleek interior.
The Food?
The restaurant offers a fantastic brunch menu including Weekend Roasts (Surrey farmed roast beef, whole roasted chicken, whole sea bass, spare ribs and trimmings) and brunch staples like buttermilk fried chicken with waffles and steak and eggs.
The brunch is complete with a choice of unlimited Mimosas, Rossini, Prosecco and Grey Goose Bloody Mary's for just an additional £19 per person! It’s for an hour and a half but the servers are incredibly attentive and will top your glass up without you needing to shout ‘Prosecco over here!’ Speaking of which, the prosecco is of a very high quality, and after having my share of bad Prosecco over the years, I can definitely tell!
The buttermilk fried chicken with waffles is a definite must try, the chicken was juicy and succulent with a crispy Southern fried coating dipped in a tangy spicy saucy sauce and the waffle was crunchy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, just like they should be.
The steak & eggs was another winner and came with a gorgeous Heritage Tomato salad to give the whole dish some freshness and vibrancy. The skirt steak was cooked to medium-rare perfection and was some of the best steak I have tried in a long time.
I must also mention the truffle mac and cheese, the ultimate match made in gooey cheesy heaven! At £7 it’s a bit on the pricey side but it’s a big portion and it has a good deal of beautiful truffle in it.
We also opted for dessert (of course!) and tried the chocolate brownie with vanilla ice cream and pistachio and apricot mille-feuille. Both were fantastic but that mille-feuille will live long in the memory, a beautiful looking dessert that tasted equally delicious with the lovely flavour of pistachio running through it.
The Price?
Our brunch for two including the bottomless cocktails, two mains, two sides and two desserts came to a total of £93. If you’re not fussed with dessert and sides you’re looking at around £65-£80 for two which I think is very reasonable for the high quality location, food, drinks and service.
Overall?
I highly recommend the Bottomless Brunch at Sea Containers. The food is exquisite, the drinks are endless, and the service is impeccable. Everything you need to start the weekend on the right foot. The brunch menu is available between 12 and 4pm every Saturday and Sunday so book your table now!
