Krups are known as one of the best when it comes to coffee machines and having used the Evidence Bean to Cup Coffee Machine for a couple of months now, I can certainly vouch for this. This is the machine for your avid coffee drinker who can tell their ristretto from their doppio, their cappuccino from their macchiato.  

Setting Up The Machine

Let’s start at the beginning – Setting up the machine. I found this to be fairly straight-forward and it took around 20 minutes to get up and running. What I found most impressive is the fact that there is a water testing process to configure your machine to make drinks in accordance with the ‘hardness’ of your water supply. After testing my water and finding it to be ‘very hard’, I configured the machine to account for this. It’s little things like this that make this machine probably the best bean to cup machines on the market.

Standout Features

One of the most impressive things about the machine is the fact that you can make drinks straight from your phone, I repeat, you can make drinks straight from your phone! Using Bluetooth technology, you can use the app to choose your desired coffee and get the machine to prepare the drink even when you’re in a different room. You can even customise your drink and then save it as a favourite so it’s even easier to choose it.

I found this incredibly useful upon waking in the morning as I could use the app to make an Americano so it is ready and waiting by the time I’m downstairs, filling the house with the unmistakeable aroma of freshly ground coffee. Just remember to put a coffee mug under the machine before you go to bed otherwise you’ll just be left with a big puddle of coffee! The app can also show how many uses you have until the cleaning cycle, when the water filter needs replacing, when the coffee grounds need emptying and can track your coffee consumption (although you may not wish to know this!)

There are 15 preset drinks, each customisable to your exact taste through choosing the temperature of the water, the amount of water and milk for your drink, if you’d like an extra shot of espresso, and the type of grind. It will take a little experimentation with various coffee beans and grind settings but once you find your preference it’s simply a joy to have the freshest cup of coffee without having to go out to a coffee shop each time.

Making milky coffees like cappuccinos and macchiatos requires using the additional stainless steel container for the milk and connecting it to the machine. The in-built milk frother is seriously impressive and has consistently created barista style coffee drinks every time.

Aesthetics

I found the machine to be stylish in look and the perfect size for a kitchen counter. It comes in 3 smart finishings – Black, metal, and chrome.

Maintaining The Machine

In terms of maintenance, you can set it up so it can automatically go through a rinse cycle between useage to ensure the freshest cup of coffee each time. A full cleaning cycle is required every three hundred and sixty cups by using a Krups cleaning tablet which is as simple as pressing a few buttons, putting in the tablet, and letting the machine take over. Overall, maintenance is painless and doesn’t take away from the joy of having a fresh cup of coffee in just a few minutes.

Verdict?

Having used the machine for two months now, the quality and consistency of coffee has remained impressively high with no issues whatsoever. Make no mistake, this machine delivers the best cup your coffee beans could possibly produce. Whomever you buy this for, you will be in their good books for years to come and I’m sure they won’t mind if you pop round every now and again for a latte macchiato.
