Trafalgar Dining Rooms, London - Review

Trafalgar Dining Rooms review

Cuisine: Mediterranean
Style Points: 5/5
Price: ££
Overall: 4/5

Newly opened Trafalgar Dining Rooms is a super stylish restaurant and bar, offering views across Trafalgar Square.

The large dining space is elegantly adorned, with beautiful plush booths and attractively laid out tables. There is also a classic bar area by the entrance offering a lovely lounge-like place to relax with a drink.

What’s on the menu?

The menu gives Mediterranean cuisine a ‘London twist’ using the finest, freshest, and where possible, local ingredients.

The main menu features flavoursome starters and tasteful classic meat, fish and salad dishes. From grilled stone bass with tomato, samphire and spring onion to chilli and garlic glazed chicken and puy lentil moussaka, each dish is complemented by the extensive wine list which is created to  reflect the cultural melting pot that is London.

We tried starters of burrata with pickle heritage beetroot, courgette fritters and goats cheese salad. Each of the dishes were well presented and tasted delightfully rich in flavour.

My main course of stonebass with celery roots and samphire was subtle on flavour but we also tried the Dedham vale ribeye steak which was well cooked and complemented by the excellent confit garlic mayo.

For dessert we tried the warm date and walnut cake with stem ginger which I found tasted quite heavily of the ginger and sadly overpowered the other flavours.

We also opted for the quince and chestnut crumble cake as I hadn’t seen such a combination on a menu before. The crumble cake was well made but the portion was too large for the sharp flavours and we couldn’t quite finish it.

After our meal we headed up to the Rooftop bar for another drink where we were met with stunning views overlooking Trafalgar Square and the rest of the London skyline.

Price?

For the quality of the location and the decadence of the restaurant, the prices at Trafalgar Dining Rooms are not extortionate, although still high-end. Starters are priced at between £8 to £12 and main courses are around £14 for vegetarian dishes and the ribeye steak was £34.

The price for cocktails in the Rooftop bar are quite steep but this is expected due to the genuinely magnificent views of London.

Overall: 4/5

Trafalgar Dining Rooms is a beautiful restaurant ideal for a cosy intimate meal as the decor lends itself to luxury relaxed dining.

The menu is also quite varied and the prices for food are fairly reasonable. I will definitely be returning to spend some time lounging in the bar area whilst watching the crowd go by outside, a great way to spend any day!
