Camino Bankside

I’ve dined at Camino a few times now at different branches and each time I’ve not been let down. The food has been consistently fantastic and it is one of the best places in London for good quality authentic Spanish tapas.

So when I heard that Camino were launching a Weekend Feast menu featuring a hearty meat feast of typical Spanish grill I just knew I had to come down and review it.

Camino Bankside Weekend Feast

The Bankside branch of Camino is quite hidden away but it has a lovely heated outside area and the inside is large and nicely decorated with little Spanish touches. The staff are very friendly and welcoming, especially the manager Raj who greets you with a big smile and is more than happy to talk you through the menu.

Raj explained that the Weekend Feast menu is fully loaded with the following: BBQ short ribs with wine & mushroom sauce, beef hanger steak, Ibérico pork secreto, bhicken skewers with mojo picón and chorizo riojano.

What’s more, each person can choose a side each from either the endive salad, padrón peppers, patatas bravas, arroz negro, tomato bread or croquetas. We decided on the padrón peppers and endive salad...plus some croquetas as we couldn’t resist!

Whilst we waited for our feast we decided on some cocktails. We tried Lola’s Passion - a refreshing mix of cava, Vanilla vodka, fresh passionfruit and lemon. We also tried the Seville Marmalade Mojito - packed with the flavour of Havana Club 3yr old white rum, orange juice, mint leaves, lime juice and a good dollop of Seville orange marmalade. Both cocktails were excellent and with the complimentary olives it really put us in the weekend mood.

Camino Bankside Weekend Feast

When I saw our waiter coming toward us with the Weekend Feast I knew we were in for a treat.

On instinct, I project managed the table and made extra space for the big dish of Spanish delights. Everything looked cooked to perfection and the smells that were emanating from each meaty treat was sheer heaven.

Each part of the feast was cooked perfectly and I really couldn’t pick a fault with anything even the portion as there was plenty to go around. From the rich dark flavour of the BBQ short rib with wine and mushroom sauce/marinade to the chicken skewers with the spicy sweet mojo picón, I was ‘mmm-ing’ throughout.

The sides were also very tasty, especially the Endive salad mixed with a fresh and tangy vinaigrette and topped with plenty of high quality feta and crispy fried croutons.

The padrón peppers were without fault and always a hit when sprinkled with coarse sea salt to really bring out the flavour of the peppers.

Although all aspects of the Weekend Feast were on point, the standout winner for me was the beef hanger steak which just melted in the mouth and was some of the best beef I’ve tasted in a long while.

The Weekend Feast is great value at just £20 per person (minimum two people) and you won’t be disappointed with either the portion or the quality.

Overall?

I already knew how good Camino was and this new Weekend Feast is just another feather in the cap for what is one of the best places in London for good quality Spanish tapas. I definitely recommend you give it a try to get your weekend off to a great start.
